An exodus of former Team Jenny Hill councillors highlighted the level of disarray in the current Townsville City Council, independent Mayoral candidate Greg Dowling said today.
Mr Dowling said the recent departures of Labor-aligned councillors and shock revelations from within the ranks of a lack of transparency under Hills’ leadership, showed that it was clearly time for a change.
“Everywhere I go people are telling me that Townsville needs change and that is why I have put my hand up to be Mayor,’’ Mr Dowling said.
“I want to restore confidence and prosperity to our city. The current council is in disarray because an election is coming and they know they have achieved nothing,’’ Mr Dowling said.
“The current Mayor has been in power for eight years and has overseen the drastic decline of the Townsville economy, we need a fresh approach,’’ Mr Dowling said.
Mr Dowling said if elected Mayor he would ensure a brighter future for Townsville residents by tackling crime, restoring local jobs, reducing the cost of living and implementing stronger water-security measures.
“This Labor-aligned administration has been in power for too long and have failed the people of Townsville.
“It’s time for a change,’’ Mr Dowling said.
