Dowling vows to ease cost of living pressure for Townsville residents

Media Release:

Independent mayoral candidate Greg Dowling has vowed to east cost of living pressure for Townsville residents by freezing rates and increasing discounts for paying on time.

“Our city has been through tough times of late – environmentally, socially and economically.

“Cost of living pressure has never been greater but this council has raised rates while giving themselves a pay rise.”

Mr Dowling said the state Labor government continued to rip off Townsville residents through out-of-control electricity prices, increased car rego and by putting up taxes to fill their empty coffers.

“This Labor-aligned council continues to increase residents’ rates whilst at the same time not keeping up with the provision of basic services such as fixing footpaths and potholes.

“Enough is enough. Governments need to represent the people, not themselves,’’ Mr Dowling said.

Once elected Mayor, Mr Dowling said he would introduce a rates freeze on residential property for the 2020/21 year and increase the pay-on-time discount from 10% to 15%.

“I will also conduct a thorough review of all council programs to ensure residents are getting value for money,’’ Mr Dowling said.

“It’s time Townsville was represented by an independent voice,’’ he said.
